As many of you may have noticed, there is a new fence around the Preservation Station as part of our efforts to make the site a meeting area for the association. Part of this plan, is to split some of the costs with TACA, who own the Station. An agreement is being written that will clearly define both of our financial obligations so that there will be no misunderstandings. We hope to start next year on doing some gardening to enhance the space and make the exterior an option for outdoor meetings.
Parking continues to be a problem in several areas of the neighborhood and will continue to grow. We are investigating ways to ease the stress, including parking permits. There is no plan that will solve everyone’s situation, but we hope to have a good compromise that will be acceptable to all. If you have a specific parking complaint in your area of the neighborhood, please inform one of the board members.
We are moving forward on plans to install signs that would welcome people to our neighborhood. The City will install one large sign free of charge. So far, we are thinking that it should be in the Central median at Central and the freeway. We do know that that is part of EDo now, but it is also right in the middle of Huning Highland and we have no other main corridors that are another option. We also are looking at sign toppers that will go atop the street signs. One of the questions we have about this option is that we have several different designs of sign poles that all require a different mounting. We had not found a solution. Well, on a recent trip to Taos, Ann and Cindy Carson seem to have come up with the answer. There is an adapter that will fit the sign toppers and adapt to the various supports. We hope to have more news coming soon.
The park is starting to show some wear once again and we are hoping to come up with ideas to make it more “family friendly”. We need your input to come up with a plan and then to find funding to accomplish the goal. If you want to be a part of this operation, please contact one of the board members.
Do you have excess stuff that is yearning for a new home? We are still planning to have a neighborhood yard sale this fall during the Balloon Fiesta and Greek Festival. As an extra fundraising effort, we are planning to have a donated section at the Preservation Station that would benefit the neighborhood association. So if you aren’t that interested in manning your own sale, consider donating some items to HHHDA. There should be loads of foot traffic this time of the year, so plan to clean out your basements and attics.
Our annual meeting and election is going to be held on Saturday August 29th at 6:00pm. All residents of the neighborhood including people renting or leasing property are welcome. We encourage you to join the neighborhood association to vote for your choice to sit on the Board of Directors. Dues are $5.00 for businesses, individuals or families to join for the year, a real bargain. If you don’t wish to become a member, you can still attend, have some fun meeting your neighbors and eat some great food. You will find more details about the meeting in this newsletter. We hope to see you there.
