December 2025 Meeting Minutes
6:30pm | Preservation Station | Bonnie Anderson presiding
Greek Church Update
Gary Mallory shared the preliminary plans for use of a security grant to make improvements to walls/fences, lighting, and cameras. There was some discussion about the need for a well-designed lighting plan that doesn’t create unwanted light in neighboring houses. Gary said he would forward the lighting design plan to HHHDA. He also discussed progress on upgrades to the old fire station, including new landscaping. Gary invited interested neighbors to join the meal prep the Church does once a month to help feed hungry people in ABQ. The Church wants to be a good neighbor and plans to attend future HHHDA meetings on a regular basis.
Lutheran School Caroling
Nolan Schroeder, principal of the Lutheran School, invited neighbors to sign up for carolers to come by their homes between 3:00 and 4:00 on Saturday, December 6. They can also call and leave their name/address/phone at the school office (505-243-2589).
Vortex – The Game’s Afoot
A new neighbor invited everyone to attend the new show opening at the Vortex Dec. 5. The show includes her partner, Jonathan Tyrrell, who was at a play practice during our meeting. They recently purchased the home on Coal, across from the community garden, and said she just saw a rehearsal of the play and was delighted.
Holiday Party Reminder
Salley encouraged everyone to attend the Holiday Party on Dec. 13, 6:00 – 8:00 at the Press Club. The party is a way for neighbors to get to know each other and share some holiday cheer. Turkey and wine will be provided and neighbors can bring a dish to pass if they wish, or make a $10 donation.
Neighborhood Unhoused People
We continued our discussion from last month’s meeting, and started with Bob reading the letter he and his wife Brenda drafted, centering around issues at our park. That led to a discussion about how to get some regular police presence in our neighborhood, including a possible petition with photos documenting problems, posted on our website so that people could access it easily. We also talked about some of the barriers to building casitas to add to the supply of affordable housing. Limiting the number of short-term rentals in the neighborhood was also mentioned as a way to add to the supply of long-term rentals and the health of the neighborhood.
