February 2026 Meeting Minutes
6:30pm | Preservation Station | Bonnie Anderson presiding
Zoning Changes Update
Carlos reported that despite our letter to all the City councilors in support of the “gentle density” changes proposed, all the changes were defeated. Councilor Baca is going to reintroduce them at an upcoming meeting. There was a discussion about the reasons behind this defeat.
Spring Yard Sale – March 28 (8am to 1pm) at the Station
Glen will distribute flyers and solicit items that neighbors may want to donate, with proceeds going to HHHDA. Neighbors will also be invited to bring items to the sale and collect the proceeds themselves. Neighbors should email Glen at HHHDAYardSale@gmail.com by March 14 if they want to participate in this yard sale so Glen can determine how much space will be needed to showcase all the items.
The Board approved a budget of up to $350 for costs related to the event.
Jane’s Walk – May 2
Bob covered the history of this event and explained that the walk this year will cover Edith and Arno between Central and Coal. The Walk will cover interesting details of historic homes and some of the stories that have been told about past owners. Sign up details will be shared for this free event as soon as they are available.
Lutheran School – Student Led Neighborhood Cleanup
Nolan Schroeder, principal of the Lutheran School, shared the many activities planned at the school in upcoming weeks and invited neighbors to attend. We applauded his students’ efforts to help keep our neighborhood free of litter.
CYFD Needs Foster Parents
Najam and Courtney from CYFD invited neighbors to think about ways they may want to help support over 700 children currently in foster care in our county: offering respite care for a day or two for other foster parents; provide food, transportation or other necessities for other foster families; or being a foster parent yourself. CYFD has a large number of infants right now (removed from situations involving drugs), groups of siblings who need to be placed together, and always teenagers needing loving family support. If you have questions, please contact Najam at najam.tafoya@cyfd.nm.gov or 1-800-432-2075.
Property Improvement Grants
New neighbor Jonathan offered to help anyone interested in submitting a grant to the City under their Property Improvement Program. Jonathan can be reached at jonathantyrrell2@gmail.com.
Community Building
Lizzie described a new group forming in Albuquerque, following a national model that encourages smaller community groups to work together to achieve significant victories around common goals. She asked us to share with a partner that thing that most worried us about living in Albuquerque, as an example, and followed up by asking several neighbors to share their concerns. It was obvious that there were many common concerns. If you are interested in learning more about this new citywide group at their first meeting on Feb. 24 at 6:30pm, please contact Lizzie for the location elizabeth.d.gore@gmail.com.
Small Business Resources
Markela from the Mayor’s Office shared several flyers offering support to small business owners or those interested in starting a new business. For more information, contact Markela at mclinton@cabq.gov.
