March 2026 Meeting Minutes

6:30pm | Preservation Station | Bonnie Anderson presiding

Discussion on Neighborhood Safety

Neighbors shared strategies they used that helped them feel safe in their homes: owning a dog; installing cameras with speakers attached; using motion-detection lighting in side and back yards; getting phone numbers from their neighbors to share news about incidents; picking up packages for neighbors who are not home; keeping bikes and other valuables locked out of sight; installing fencing. Representatives from APD added the importance of reporting incidents to 911 (if urgent) or 242-COPS or 311 if less urgent because metrics help determine how officer time is assigned. You can also email them at brimartinez@cabq.gov or call the substation at 505-761-8800 to report ongoing issues. They noted that drones (with cameras, lights, and speakers) are now being used to assist with addressing calls for service. Neighbors requested community policing which puts police on foot or on bikes as a regular presence, rather than only appearing in response to service calls.
